News and Events: Thanksgiving

This week we celebrate Thanksgiving.  In giving various vocations talks to children, the one question that usually comes up is , "How do you celebrate the holidays?"  They are want to find out if the sisters have fun during the holidays and what exactly do nuns do at Thanksgiving.

The community is our religious family and like all families we have our traditions.  For Thanksgiving we will go down to Versailles, KY to Taylor Manor Nursing Home.  We celebrate our Thanksgiving there because we can all be together, including our oldest member who is not able to travel.  So by going there, she is able to join in our holiday celebration.

We'll enjoy a turkey dinner cooked by the wonderful kitchen staff at Taylor Manor.  The table will be beautifully decorated by Sister Celeste Marie.  And we'll enjoy relaxing and talking with each other.

After dinner we go to chapel to pray together.  Like all families, we want to thank God for all the graces and blessings He gives to us each day.  After prayer time, it is play time!  One of the sisters is in charge of the games for the afternoon.  The games we will play are a wide variety; puzzles, Bingo, seek and find, quizzes, races, etc.  And of course there are prizes to win.  If the weather is nice, we'll go out for a walk after the games.  If not, we'll rest and relax before we go back into chapel for evening prayer.

In other words, Thanksgiving day is a day when we give thanks to God for all He has given us, especially the gift of our sisters community.  We spend the day enjoying being with each other and giving thanks.  I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with many blessings.
